Face of the Month

Hello beauties. I've been really switching up my makeup base lately between mineral foundations and mixing my own tinted moisturisers but I think I've finally settled on my everyday face for this time of year.

I wanted to keep things as sheer as possible because the sun has been out and the 'melted cake face look' isn't a good one! No matter what base I've worn, my trusty Lily Lolo Mineral Concealer is the perfect partner in crime. (read my review of the concealer here)

Step 1 // Moisturise
To create a dewy base I've been moisturising with Jojaba Oil, this was too heavy for my skin at first and made me oily but using a couple of drops, rubbing it in my hands then gently patting it on seems to do the trick.

Step 2 // Prime
Priming with Aloe Vera Gel is so easy, it minimises pores and absorbs into the skin so quickly which makes a perfect smooth base.

Step 3 // Base
I've fallen back in love with my Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream. The coverage is better than most and it benefits the skin whilst it's on.

Step 4 // Conceal
A mineral concealer gives great coverage and lasts all day, it saves having to use powder to set makeup and is great for a 'soft focus' look, especially under the eyes. I find Lily Lolo has slightly more coverage and better shade choices than Bare Minerals, it's also much cheaper! I apply it with the Eco Tools Concealer Brush.

Step 5 // Minimal eye makeup
For my spring/summer eyes I have been saving a lot of time by just using my FAVOURITE ever mascara, Maybeline The Great Lash in Very Black on the top lashes only, with a clear mascara on the bottom to separate. Sometimes I leave it at that but might add a small line of eyeliner on the outer corner to create the illusion of thicker lashes. The Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Liner is my current favourite.

Step 6 // Bold lips
Because there is no colour on the eyes or cheeks this is the perfect time to whip out those bold lippies. Although Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 08 is quite safe I am totally in love with it. I wanted a Kylie Jenner colour without going to Mac (as they test on animals.) The lipstick really does last and seems to leave a slight stain on my lips without wearing off completely until I take my makeup off.

The look is so quick and simple, just what I need in the mornings before a full day in the office. All the products are fairly natural and allow my skin to breath during the day.

Current Favourites

As you know by now my sensitive skin breaks out over high coverage products, for this reason I try to stay away from foundation but the temptation is too much sometimes and having troubled skin means having to hide it.

I went into The Body Shop looking to try out their new Insta-blur product, after hearing many YouTubers raving about it, the temptation was again too much. I ended up purchasing the Body Shop Tea Tree BB cream instead after trying it on the back of my hand and falling in love, it's the highest coverage BB cream I have ever tried and isn't quite at the coverage of foundation so is bang on for my skin type.

The texture is so lovely and despite containing tea tree oil it doesn't make me oily! I apply with my new favourite brush - Eco tools flat foundation brush. It goes on so effortlessly and covers redness and pores so well that I don't feel I need the Insta-blur anymore.

I wear it every day to work and apply my Maybelline Fit Me concealer where needed, but no powder as the BB cream leaves a lovely glow and doesn’t stick to dry patches like a foundation.

I’m still addicted to my trusty Maybelline Great Lash mascara for a purse friendly eyelash God and picked up this bargain multipack from TK Max for £5.99! (usually £4.99 each)

On the lips I have been venturing past my usual Rimmel Kate Moss pink in 101 or my No7 Lip Crayon in Delicate Pink with the Maybelline Colour Sensational gloss in Stellar Berry. I love the raspberry deep pink tint it leaves on the lips which instantly glams up any look. I used this on Friday night when I went straight from work to cocktails with friends and it immediately made me feel like I had made loads of effort. The gloss is hydrating and not sticky which is a great result considering the price, I usually press the gloss into my lips with my fingertips for a more subtle daytime colour and layer it up for a night time look.

These products are all I have been wearing on an everyday basis and are most definitely my current makeup favourites for a quick and natural everyday look.

To keep it natural hair-wise I have been tying my hair in a Princess Jasmine ponytail at nights for heatless waves. Simply tie hair in a ponytail and add hairbands down the length of the pony, however closely or tightly you want the waves to be. I use three ties in total and loosen the hair between each tie for high volume waves that last all day!

Steering away from beauty I upgraded to an iPhone 5c this month, in pink of course. I couldn’t be happier with it so far and the camera is amazing. Here are some snaps from my month;

My Everyday Makeup

For me my everyday makeup should be a natural look that makes me comfortable in my own skin.

Everyone has different ideas of beautiful whether it's a staple look like winged eyeliner, dip dyed hair or tanned skin its hard to discover what suits you. Over the years I have cut, coppied and pasted products into my routine and I aim to keep it as simple as possible (lazy alert)

The products I stick to
The most important thing before you step out the door and show the rest of the world your beautiful face is to be happy, feeling confident is vital. If this means you need fake eyelashes or extensions on show then so be it!

Due to my sensitive skin me and foundation have never been friends, I've tried organic, BB cream, mineral, tinted moisturiser, you name it I've probably tried it. Mainly because my skin is so acne prone I avoid heavy products but I'm usually either covering a scar or a blemish. Not fun.

I love cream concealers like Benefit Boi-ing but due to the heaviness on a regular work day something like Maybeline Fit Me is my favourite. Its light but very buildable and never goes orange or cakey. I use my Eco Tools concealer brush to apply whatever I need from the back of my hand.

Maybeline Fit Me concealer
I've been using this No7 powder in translucent for years and have had no problems with it, it's very pale and loose which I prefer to pressed powder as it provides me more coverage. It's £12, lasts forever and goes on wonderfully with a fluffy powder brush. I simply apply small amounts onto areas that I've got concealer to lock in the coverage.

After 7 years my skin problems are just a flaw I've learnt to live with but on the bright side I have been gifted with a good pair of eyelashes. I begin with 5 seconds of curling and apply one coat of Maybeline Great Lash which is great at seperating each lash. (Lottie's tip: Pull your eyelid upwards so you can get right down to the lash root with your mascara)

My mascara tip
Because I usually make a mess attempting to coat every lash with mascara I use a cotton bud dabbed in a small amount of Garnier Micellar Water to clean up and then pat on generous amounts of Lush Jackie Oats colour supplement. This is uber pale so makes for an excellent highlight on the brow, lid and undereye area as well as moisturising the delicate skin.

Jackie Oats is a great highlighter and under eye concealer
For a wash of colour on the lips I like use my trusty Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 101 which is a gorgeous 'my lips but better' pink. This is my current favourite matte lip look but I'm eager to try the Topshop collection. What colours do you recommend?

My natural finished look

I have cut down my makeup over the years and I am happy with my routine but am constantly on the hunt to better it.
Any suggestions?
